“It (Jesus’
blood) will be shed for you and for all so that sins may be forgiven.
Do this
in memory of me.”
“Do THIS in memory of
me.” And that “THIS” is our celebration of
the Eucharist, our participation in the sacrifice of the Mass. How can we look at a cross and refuse the
Lord’s request to “Do this in memory of me” every weekend? The services of Holy Thursday, Good Friday,
and Holy Saturday – while not obligatory in the sense of the weekend Mass – are
wonderful ways to make Holy Week what it truly is – a HOLY, HOLY, HOLY
Week. If you need a quick reference as
to when the different celebrations are, Mrs. Menzia
shares them in her article on the back side.
The Lord be with you and all of us.
Some WANT ADS
1. Seed, plant, or garden-type MAGAZINES
needed. Can be old or new. However, they will NOT be returned since they
will be cut up. Please bring to the
first or second grade rooms. Thank you!
2. As you begin your “spring
cleaning” this year, please keep in mind we will again be having a Home and
School Association sponsored USED BOOK SALE in April on Wednesday the 25th. We will begin accepting donations after
Easter break. Please watch for more details. By the way, if you know a donated book is on
the AR (Accelerated Reading) list, please be sure to mark it as such. If you
have any questions and/or you would like to help with this project, please call
Patrice Walter at 261-1744. (Great
service hours project!)
3. A HUGE request. We are “in the running” for having an
intern from either Japan or Korea come for a year. We would be the main
host school but would probably make arrangements with some other schools in
Watertown so that more children could benefit from the experience. We have a potential host family already but
just in case that wouldn’t work out, would there be anyone else interested in
doing that? We are probably talking about
a year, possibly beginning in late April of this year! The intern – my understanding – would
contribute about $200 a month to the household expenses. The school’s job is to feed him or her at
lunch and be sure the intern has transportation to and from school. He or she would be able to teach a number of
possible subjects related to their own culture. Might be a very worthwhile
experience! IF you would be interested
in hosting such a person, would you please contact me on Monday. It is possible to “share” the hosting months
among a few families if there would be a few of you who would love to do
that. Again, I do need to know Monday in
order to get back to the hosting organization before the available interns are
spirited away by other schools. By the
way, I learned about the program on our diocesan email site. However, you could try the site internship.or.jp
of you are curious. I did it quickly
just now and had some success after asking for the Japanese translation. I could also give you the email address of my
correspondent if you wanted to contact her directly and ask questions. Time will tell!
The final Penny War
battle today was of epic proportions.
I won’t have the count in time for today’s newsletter but we’ll sure let
you know next week. THANK YOU so much
for your caring generosity.
We had our annual spelling bee on Wednesday morning. It’s always FUN. It’s done with the remaining two children left standing from each grade’s individual spelling bee in the classroom. We have had to limit each grade’s run off to ten minutes or we could be there into next week. That’s the reason you will occasionally see tie results. So, the winners of the 06-07 bee are as follows: tied for first place in grade one were Kaitlyn Linskens and Jordan Hernandez; also tied for first were Caitlynn Hesse and Karli Kohls in grade two; grade three first place to Grace O’Connor and second to Alex Denault; Janelle Hamilton won first in fourth grade with Jacob Turner second; first place in grade five to Jessica Mallow with Edgar Arias second; Brendan O’Connor first in six with Isabel Kemp second; in grade seven Elizabeth Christian was first and Jesse Hinchcliffe second; and finally, we had another tie in eighth grade with Catherine O’Connor and Taylor Wagner. Congratulations, all.
GRADE TWO NEWS
Our reading stories this month have provided us extended
experiences and enjoyment. In Bruno the
Baker we read about a beaver who baked a birthday cake. The story tells about the tools and
ingredients needed to make a cake. On
Thursday the second graders actually used Bruno’s recipe with the help of Mrs.
Wagner and Mrs. Brebeck. The children had some new experiences in the
kitchen. The kitchen can be a great
learning environment. We also read Bruno
the Tailor and Bruno the Carpenter.
These books show the pattern for making an apron and plans for making a
toolbox.
This week’s story is Missing:
One Stuffed Rabbit. Soon we will be
naming our stuffed classroom bear. After
Easter everyone will be able to take it home and write a journal entry about
the time spent together.
Congratulations to the second graders who have passed levels A – Z
in addition. They are Emma Cole, Lacey
Green, Karli Kohls, Natalia Olguin, Brenna Smedema,
Cynthia Valadez, Erin Haeger, Joseph Brebeck, Caitlynn Hesse and Caitlyn Schroeder. Even more congratulations go to Lacy Green
and Emma Cole! They have passed all
levels A – Z in subtraction too! Keep
working on those facts so we can all reach our goal for this year.
We continue to prepare for our First Holy Communion. Holy Week is an excellent time to remember
and celebrate all that we believe.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASS NEWS
Last week in gym class we finished up our jump rope unit. In it the younger students learned the basic
jump rope techniques with both small individual ropes and large jump
ropes. During this time we also saw our
upper grades attempting the always difficult double – Dutch, with the eighth
grade boys leading the way. After a
couple of free-days filled with fun and games, we turned our attention to floor
-- hockey. The floor-- hockey unit will
take us all the way to spring break.
Using a foam stick and a wiffle-ball as a puck, we will have some hockey
funBe active!
Enjoy your spring break!
