“Children, obey your parents in
the Lord, for this is right.”
Ephesians 6:1
At this point you are all aware that we will
be attending Mass (8:40 am) on St. Patrick’s Day with our other Catholic school
friends at St. Bernard. How nice to be
able to celebrate Eucharist with them on their special day. We will also be
enjoying their parade and then are invited to their special assembly with the
official Troubadour at Milwaukee’s Irish Fest. All that happens this Tuesday,
“Wear Green Day!”
If you consider sending children to a
summer camp, you might want to check out Camp Gray, a ministry of our own
Diocese of Madison. They have openings
for this summer yet for boys and girls of all ages, grades 2-12.
You can check this website www.campgray.com or call them at 608-356-8200 for
information. Camp Gray is set in a
lovely wooded area in the Dells, Reedsburg, Baraboo area. They have one and two-week sessions from June
14th to August 14th and prices range from $290-$830 ($415 is the usual), with
financial aid available. Their staff is diocesan checked, “camper-focused,
mature, faith-filled, and most of all, fun!”
Speaking of summer (I can’t believe I’m
already talking about it!), we do have registration forms for the Watertown
District’s summer school offerings now in the school office. Let me repeat that
information about summer school that was in a previous newsletter in case you
forgot to put it on your calendar.
We have a significant change this year with
a May 1st deadline for elementary registration. Early bird registration will be
Saturday, March 21st, 2009 at Lincoln School from 8:00 am until noon. There will be no guarantee for those students
that turn in their applications after May 1st.
They will be put on a wait list. There will be absolutely no walk-ins on
the first day of Summer School. . . .Elementary registrations forms will NOT be
accepted after May 30.
I
really hope you take the time to take to check the offerings for it. There are wonderful, FUN classes I wish I
could take! That information can be
found at www.watertown.k12.wi.us -- we also have a copy of all of the courses
in the office in case you would like to peruse them.
A note from Mrs. Patty Kihslinger
of our Parish Finance Office:
The student envelopes for 2009 have finally
been finished. Please encourage your
children to use them, as this is a way of thanking God for all He has given to
us. It can be the start of a life-long
stewardship for them besides the time and talents that they already share with
our parish family. If the younger
students don’t always have any money to put into the envelopes, have them write
some good deed that was done during the week and offer that to God. Most of all, your example will instill in
them the importance of giving back what God has provided for each of us.
We also received some information to share
about last month’s auction. I know many
of you were part of that in some form or the other. It’s good news indeed!
The
St. Henry’s 2009 Dinner Auction was held on February 7th at the Watertown
Country Club.
We
would like to take this opportunity to thank the generous people and businesses
who contributed
to
our biennial event. We would also like
to thank everyone who helped in one way or the other to
make the evening such a huge success. With the tough economic times we appreciate
your support
for our church and school. It is through your donations and help that we
were able to raise approxi-
mately
$26,000.00
The winners of the pre-raffle:
Grand
prize/42” TV
Ron & Chris Altenburg
$150.00
Mobil Gas Card Doug & Pam Kohls
$50.00
Gas Card &

Thanks again for your continued support to this fund raiser and we look
forward to seeing you at the
2011 St. Henry’s Dinner Auction.

St. Henry’s Dinner Auction Co-Chairs
Wow! Wonderful. I always marvel too at how the people who are
often the ones who put in the most hours and the most labor are the ones who
thank everyone else. To you co-chairs,
WE all say, “Thank YOU!”
You will see from the Home and School
Association minutes that will accompany this newsletter some requests for all
school parents. One that I would like to
mention has to do with checking out the services of a company called SchoolReach. If HASA
would choose to fund it, the company promises to deliver phone messages – to
home or cells – for notices like school cancellation, important meetings coming
up, time changes for events, letting groups of parents know things like the
children will be returning from a field trip later than expected so people
won’t be waiting unnecessarily, and on and on.
Why don’t you check out the site shared in the minutes and let your
class rep know if you would be for or against HASA funding that for next year.
You will also see a Code of Conduct for the
behavior of youngsters at events like dances and carnivals and the like. That came about because of a few discussions
this year at board meetings regarding the fact that we have all seen little
ones get a little wild and crazy at these events – NOT really naughty – just
inappropriate for the time, place, and event.
Many people felt that this has happened because 1) some didn’t realize that these activities
were not OK in the first place or 2)
they hadn’t noticed their children doing them because they were either working
or visiting, or 3) they were
uncomfortable fussing about it, especially with someone else’s children! So the solution was to let everyone know “the
rules” and to let all parents know that it is “their job” to keep an eye on
their own offspring and to encourage moms and dads to spring into action to nip
inappropriate behavior in the bud and to not hesitate to remind other children
either. So please take the time to check those rules out and then be sure your
children understand them, OK? Sure will
help make all future events less stressful for everyone. Thanks.
Have a great weekend. Join your community in worship at Mass as
part of it! The Lord will be expecting
you.
