        “Have mercy on me, O God, in your goodness;

                    in the greatness of your compassion wipe out my offense.”

                                                            Psalm 51: 3

Our Penny War send-off on Ash Wednesday was truly inspiring.  Not only did the students view part of a DVD on the 4 Paws for Ability training facility in Xenia, Ohio, they were blessed by a visit from Mr. and Mrs. John O’Brien. They shared some of the struggles and challenges eight-year-old Josh and his whole family have had since the onset of his seizures three years ago this month.  The O’Brien’s growing excitement over the September trek to get matched up and involved in the training for Josh’s therapy dog carried over to the youngsters.  We are proud, as a school, to help make this dream come true.  The Penny War battles will be daily from now through Wednesday, the 23rd.

You certainly are welcome to join us in our all school praying of the Way of the Cross (the Stations) on Fridays during Lent, usually at 2:30, in church.  On April 8th they will begin at 2:15 because Fr. Brian will be adding the lovely Eucharistic service of Benediction at the conclusion of the Stations that week.  We wish him and the other pilgrims of St. Henry and St. Bernard a safe and wonderful trip to the Holy Land coming up soon this month.

Accompanying this week’s newsletter will be envelopes for ordering the 2010-2011 school yearbook.  All the information you will need is on them, except the deadline date.  In order to have them ready to distribute before the end of the school year, orders (with payment) have to be into school by Friday, March 25.  The eighth grade yearbook club has been spending some after-school hours for a number of weeks now helping with the layout of them.  The books truly are a nice keepsake so we are grateful for the time those students and Mrs. Smedema, their advisor, put into getting them ready for the yearbook company.

Last week you received a request for donations to use as prizes for the HASA Spring Celebration Friday, March 25.  Please have them in the office by Monday, the 21st.   This should be a fun evening of games and camaraderie among the 4K through grade 5 families.

Mr. Weisssenborn has an invitation for the youth and/or parents of the sixth through eighth graders.  “Be a part of the decision-making for the parish youth activities for Grades 6-12.  Come to the meeting Wednesday, March 16.  It starts at 5:30, in the Parish Center Hallway.  They tend to last an hour to an hour and a half.  We’d love your input.”

If you haven’t checked out the slide show of over 100 pictures on the school homepage of the parish website sainthenryparish.org, please take the time to do that.  I dare you not to smile!
