“Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her womb?

Even should she forget you, I will never forget you.”

                                             Isaiah 49: 15

We discovered last week that we could email most of you via our Churchwerks SIS system.  The system doesn’t allow much versatility, but it’s better than nothing.  So if we have another situation like we did last Thursday with the public school being canceled for a non-weather related reason, and if I find out what’s happening early enough, I will be able to get an email out to those of you who shared yours with us as soon I hear.  That won’t reach everyone, of course, but if you want to double-check a situation, call a friend who has that or call me!  I am in the phone book. The emails we have are the ones you wrote on the student information sheets.  If these have changed, you will want to let us know. Again, if there is a weather-related school closing, we will do what the public school does, no matter.

SUMMER SCHOOL information and some forms will be included in this week’s envelope.  The informational sheet pretty well explains it all.  The deadlines are very important to note.  I did miss putting in the date when you can begin viewing a listing of the courses (see # 9 on the sheet).  That is supposed to be available “after March 2.”

NO SCHOOL next Monday!  The faculty will be attending a number of workshops, organized by the public school district but to which we are invited because the funding that pays for them mandates that we be invited.  No sense not taking advantage of that.  There are a number of worthwhile sessions offered.  Educators never stop learning -- nor should we!  It’s a win-win for youngsters and teachers alike.

Next week we will be presenting the annual, diocesan-mandated lesson for the children in K-8   Teachers must follow a lesson plan from the diocesan curriculum called “Valuing God’s Gifts in Ourselves and Others.”  It’s part of the “Safe Environment” program every parish must offer for both their parish school and religious education students. You will find a letter from each of your children’s teachers – diocese-composed – explaining the goals and letting you know where you can view the lesson.  You DO have the option of having your child excused from the presentation. The form for that will be also included.  If that is your choice, we will need to have that back by Wednesday at the start of the school day since teachers will be presenting the material some time between Wednesday and Friday of next week.

Pleased and proud are we to announce the winners of the Knights of Columbus annual “Math and Spelling” contest.  Our school’s top participants were the following: Alyssa Denault, grade 5 spelling, Elizabeth Kuckkan, grade 6 math, Karli Kohls, grade 6 spelling, Brett Caine, grade 7 math, Grace O’Connor, grade 7 spelling, Cole Keller, grade 8 math, and Janelle Hamilton, grade 8 spelling.  All of these students are eligible for the next level of competition to be held in Sauk Prairie on March 5th.  You might have noticed too that Erin Haeger, in grade 6, qualified to participate to the city-wide spelling bee sponsored by the Daily Times on March 21st.  We also just got word that third grader, Faith Klein, is one of the top three winners for grade 3 of an American Legion essay contest related to the topic of how to share pride in being an American.  Post 189 is keeping her actual placement a secret until she comes to a meeting in mid-March for all her fellow recipients. Congratulations to all these young people.
