SEE BELOW for CRUCIAL SUMMER SCHOOL INFORMATION!

Congratulations are in order.  In the annual Knights of Columbus spelling and math competitions the following children emerged as the top winners in their class.  For MATH, grade 5 – Robert Craig; grade 6 –Alexander Denault; grade 7 –Cole Keller; and grade 8 – Justin Drebenstedt.   For SPELLING, grade 5 – Karli Kohls; grade 6 – Grace O’Connor; grade 7 – Janelle Hamilton, and grade 8, Jessica Mallow.  All these children are invited to the next level of competition taking place at the Saux Prairie Middle School in Saux City, Wisconsin on Saturday, March 6. Good luck, for sure.

The Knights also shared the winners of the Christmas poster contest that had been held in Advent.  They will be listed as the class winners, but those with an asterisk also achieved the honor of being citywide winners. And those children are Logan Pitterle for grade 1, Patrick O’Connor* for grade 2, Max Thomas* for grade 3, and Hannah Stiemke for grade 4. Cheers.

Next week we are having an assembly in school to which you would be welcome. In preparation for our annual Lenten Penny War, Mr. Paul Thomas will be sharing his knowledge about and experiences with the children of Afghanistan at 10 am on Wednesday in the Parish Center.  Feel free to join us!

April 15th is the last date the 2009-2010 Service Hours slips should be turned in to the school office.  Quite a few are still out, reports Mrs. Trimborn.  Please recall that any hours that are not in must be redeemed as $10 per un-served hours as tuition due on April 15th.  Questions? Many are answered on the Service Hours sheet itself.  You can also check the addendum of your contract or give us a call.  If anyone can’t find the sheet, please give Mrs. Trimborn a call or send a note.  Thank you.  And remember, you can send those in as soon as the fifteen hours are completed.

BIG CHANGES for SUMMER SCHOOL REGISTRATIONreally BIG!

All registration will be done online via the computer.  No exceptions. Therefore, if you want any of your children to be in summer school there are a few MUSTS.

You must fill out and return a separate (preliminary) summer school registration form for each of your children.  It is included with this newsletter and it must be returned to St. Henry School by Wednesday, March 3rd.  From the information on these preliminary forms, public school personnel will register you as a possible participant for the summer school session June 22 to July 20, 2010.  Within approximately a month, you will be mailed a specific login and password to Skyward Family Access.  Without that, you will be unable to register for summer school.  There will be NO paper registration for courses as was done in the past.

Online access to register will be opened on Thursday, April 8 at 4:00 pm.  Ability to register online will be open from that day and time through Friday, May 7th.  After that time, no new registrations will be accepted.  No walk-ins will be possible.  Before that date, you can view course offerings through the www.watertown.k12.wi.us address.   Although the summer school course selections will not be finalized until around March 15th, you are able to peruse a lot of summer school information by going to the site above and then typing in summer school in the search blank.

After you have received your log in and password information you will be able to go to the Watertown school site mentioned above and then click on the Skyward Family Access for actual registration.  The sooner you do this -- once access is open on April 8th -- the better chance you will have of obtaining the courses you want.  It will be a good idea to have at least three choices in mind for each period you want your child to attend in case your first or second choices are already filled when you are ready to register and online.

After you register you will have exactly two weeks to get payments and any other forms that you may need to download into the public school.  For each child registering for one or more classes there is a standard $15.00 fee.  There are also individual additional fees for some of the classes.  Those fees, medical information forms, any liability waiver forms (depending on classes), lunch forms (it’s free!), and bus registration – all must be mailed or dropped off to Lincoln School within two weeks of registering online.  Failure to do that will result in the student(s) being dropped from those classes!

That’s a lot to digest.  The main thing for NOW is to return the (preliminary) registration form to St. Henry on or by next Wednesday.   For those who do that, we will send home before spring vacation begins at the end of March a pamphlet from the school district that will reiterate the above and give you more detailed information as to the how, what, where, and when.

By the way, on the opening early evening of registration on April 8th – if you do not have access to a computer and the Internet, -- you may go to Lincoln School between 4 and 7 pm and there will be people there to help you register online using their computers.  That’s a nice service.  So to summarize again, for anyone interested in summer school this year:

Wednesday, March  3   Must have (preliminary) registration forms returned to St. Henry School for each child.

Between April 8 and May 7th:  Register online using logins and passwords that will be mailed to you if (preliminary) registration forms were returned by March 3rd.

Within two weeks of registering:  all fees and required forms must be brought to or mailed to Lincoln School
