For I acknowledge
my offense
and my
sin is before me always.”
Psalm 51: 5
We really only ask you parents to come to two Home and School meetings a year although we encourage a lot more of course. The second one is the one a week from today: Thursday, February 28th. You received a big invitation in the folder last week – on colored paper yet! Please come. “To sweeten the pot” we even feed you and give you service hours for attending! 100% attendance is our goal! So if you haven’t returned your reply yet, please do so on Monday. If you can’t find it, you could download it on the school section of the sainthenryparish.org website or just call in the numbers of the adults attending. School phone 261-2586. I’m guessing the total supper AND talk will done within an hour to an hour and a half. You should be home by 7:30 unless YOU end up asking the speaker all kinds of questions. So again, please COME!!! Remember, we are serving between 5:45 and 6:15 in the Parish Center. The speaker should begin about 6:15.
Fr. Brian and Mrs. Sue Haberkorn thought you would appreciate knowing that the amplifier in the Parish Center needed replacing in January. SCRIP funds to the tune of $666.96 financed that. Thank you for all your support of this worthwhile project. Remember, it costs you not one extra cent to purchase Scrip cards. You buy $50.00 worth of gas cards, you get $50.00 worth of gas!
You should have seen the note last Friday from our Home and School President Michelle Uecker asking you to call her if you are coming to Misako Sensei’s potluck “Farewell Party” on March 1st following the 4:30 pm Mass. For planning sake, Michelle asked you to call her at 206-9125.
Received two MORE compliments again this week about our children. Ruth Werth of the Golden Living Facility made a special call to say what a “wonderful experience” it was having the eighth graders over Monday afternoon for the President’s Day game with the elderly residents. You probably saw the pictures on the front page of the Daily Times on Tuesday. She said their behavior was totally appropriate during the whole event. Never once, she said, did anyone have to be asked to quit an unwelcome behavior. She’s already looking forward to having Mrs. Menzia and the second graders come on Friday, March 14, to share a praying the Stations experience. On Wednesday morning the fifth and sixth graders enjoyed a community building fun retreat here with seven members of the Camp Gray staff. The head counselor said she was so excited to come because the St. Henry seventh and eighth graders were among her favorite groups that we bring to them every fall. They totally enjoyed their winter interaction with the younger kids here on the home front as well. Nice to hear, but not a surprise to us. We like them a lot too!
I also received a letter recently from one of the people in charge of our region for the SMART TUITION company. He thought it would be worthwhile to mention that there are extra fees for failed or late tuition payments. “If a check is mailed, but is returned for insufficient funds, a $25 fee will be assessed. If an electronic check payment fails, a $20 fee will be assessed. If a successful payment has not been received by the school’s due date, an additional school late fee of $15 and a follow up service fee of $20 may be charged to your account. . . . If you ever have questions or concerns about your account, please feel free to call our 24/7 parents hotline at 1-888-868-8828 or send an email to customerservice@smarttuition.com.” May none of you need that information!
NEWS FROM GRADE EIGHT
Students spent an afternoon
celebrating President’s Day with residents from the Golden Living Center in
Watertown. The eighth graders played a trivia game with residents that
had to do with the former presidents of the United States. I think both
groups enjoyed the afternoon very much! It is definitely neat to see the
interaction take place between the different generations. Thank you to
Mrs. Caine and Mr. Hertel for driving us there, too!
Eighth graders are
finishing up literature circles on the book, The Giver by Lois
Lowry. This book brings up many questions and topics that we can discuss
in length, like what would it be like to not celebrate your birthday, or be
told what job you would have for the rest of your life at age twelve. Students
have done a nice job with this piece of literature.
In writing class, students
have begun a paper about the five people they would like to meet in
heaven. We are writing these papers based on the book, The 5 People
You Will Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albon.
Ask your child whom they have selected to meet! Some are pretty
interesting, and I am sure you may even be surprised by their list.
Please watch for an
important letter from the high school concerning registration for freshmen
year. There will be a meeting held on Monday, March 3rd at the
high school, but they ask you to bring materials with you that evening. I
will be giving students some information in the next week or so concerning
classes they should take. Thanks for your support.
I just want to end with letting
you know that Mrs. Sara McLean will be taking over for me sometime in March
while I have my baby. I will be back towards the end of
May. Please welcome
her by stopping by and introducing yourself. I know she is looking
forward to working with the middle school students.
Have a great weekend.
Mrs. Harms
GRADE TWO NEWS
Mardi Gras was celebrated
by painting our Prayer Rocks. Hopefully they are serving their purpose by
reminding everyone who has one to pray each morning and night. Lent is a
time for praying, fasting and giving. Our Lenten commitments are written
on the back of the symbols on our bulletin board. They keep us focused on
our journey.
At the end of our Lenten
journey we will share the Stations of the Cross with the residents of the
Golden Living Center. We’re sure that the elders living there will enjoy
participating with us in this traditional Lenten prayer.
We continue to memorize and
practice the responses at Mass. Watch for a study guide for the Liturgy
of the Eucharist.
All of the second graders
have now mastered their addition facts. We have completed our unit on
adding two – digit numbers with and without borrowing. (Keep addition
facts fresh by practicing. You never know when they’ll be needed.)
Winter will bring
spring! Lent will bring a Joyous Easter!
