“(Love) hopes all things, endures all things.  Love never fails!”            Corinthians 13: 7-8

The national celebration of Catholic Schools Week begins this weekend.  Three cheers for all the many, many dedicated parents, faculties, supportive parishioners, and students who make this grand work possible throughout the United States.  May our schools truly glorify God and contribute to the furthering of his kingdom here on earth.

We certainly invite you to as many of our activities as you can make and would enjoy.  On Monday, the student body will end the day with a pep rally in the Parish Center beginning around 2:20 pm.  Of course, you’re welcome.  It’s also Student Council’s blue and gold day.  Those are our school colors, proudly worn by the St. Henry Hawks student athletes.

Tuesday we are having science assemblies presented by Discovery World of Milwaukee.  The one geared to grades 4-8 will begin at 12:45, the one for K-3 about 1:30 or so.  They will both be in the Parish Center.

Wednesday will begin with the 8:15 a.m. Mass, of course.  The seventh graders will fill many liturgical roles and the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade choir will offer their service as cantors and song leaders.  That afternoon will be the Student Council Variety Show beginning at 12:45 in the Parish Center.  I’m sure you already know if your children are participating!

Thursday is YOUR night, Moms and Dads.  Hopefully you sent your response in for the chili supper here in our cafeteria between 6:15 and 7:00 pm.  Remember, you have already “paid” for it because you have paid your dues for the Home and School Association!  But if you want to reserve a loaf of that wonderful bread our kitchen ladies bake, be sure you let them know.  I’m guessing if you call or send a note on Monday, you’ll probably be OK.  After supper here we will trek over to St. Bernard’s for a wonderful 7:30 pm presentation by Dave Runyeon.  There is a flier in this week’s envelope and will be one in the weekend bulletin as well.  See you Thursday!  Let’s have a HUGE crowd at both events!

Friday, we are going bowling.  There is a permission slip in this week’s envelope as well.  If you want to wander in, I can give you the approximate times the youngsters will be there.  Grades three and six are scheduled to begin around 11:50 – we are starting lunch early on Friday.  Two and eight are expected to start rolling the ball down the lanes about 12:35.  Around 1:20 pm, grades one, four, and five will be aiming for those pins.  Last but not least will be the seventh graders and the kindergarteners; they’ll be ready to roll around 2:05.  By the way, because of the serious time constraints involved with these numbers, please do NOT send along money for treats or buy any for youngsters if you would happen to come to cheer them on.  Thanks!

With this envelope is about a seven to fifteen minute homework assignment for you.  You’ll find a PARENT/GUARDIAN SURVEY which we would so appreciate your filling out and returning on Monday.  It is a source of information for our school improvement work.  There is also going to be a PARISHIONER SURVEY in this weekend’s bulletin.  Feel free to fill out that one too!  But if you don’t want to do both, we’d prefer the parent one but double blessings on you if you take the time to do both!

MUSIC NEWS

How many tones are there in a pentatonic scale?  Ask a sixth or seventh grader.  They are studying how to build and use these special scales, while the eighth graders are discussing our national anthem.  What should be considered when any country selects a national anthem?  And is the “ Star Spangled Banner” the best choice for our country”

Grades three to five are working hard on earning recorder karate belts.  Third graders are just beginning and earning lots of white belts, while fourth and fifth graders continue working up to a black belt.

Grades one and two are working on reading, writing, and hearing melodic patterns and will soon move into reading and playing rhythms.

We are expecting a large shipment near the beginning of February that includes our new percussion equipment for the World Music Drumming curriculum.  A big thank you to all who contributed!

THIRD GRADERS ARE VERY BUSY

What is habitat adaptation?  Who are consumers?  Who are producers?  Are we part of a food chain?  These are some of the questions the third graders have been asking themselves as they research habitats and living organisms.  This week we are finishing our research activities by making murals and writing fact statements.  Soon each third grader will create an individual habitat.  Look for information on making these creations to come home soon.    Keyboarding is progressing very nicely.  A snowman on a wall in the back of the classroom keeps track of each third grader’s progress.  Ask your son or daughter if they have a snowflake or a sled on the snowman bulletin board?

There are two chances to win Student Council spirit points next week.  Don’t forget “Blue and Gold Day” on Monday, the 29th and “Hat Day” on Friday, February 2nd.  Enjoy the winter season and STAY WARM!
