Dear Moms and Dads,

In my humble opinion, our standardized test scores results for grades 5, 6, and 7 – grades that were tested in the fall -- were exceptional.  Not only did we match the average high national percentile scores (in the 80’s and 90’s) of our fellow diocesan schools, a few times we even outshone them.  At a recent Education Commission meeting I shared graphs of this information with the members. One of them commented that the public schools would never have results like these, but I responded to that compliment that we here at St. Henry do have some advantages that our local public school system just doesn’t have, despite its also having many outstanding teachers on their staffs.  We have a narrower spread of children with different learning abilities than they do.  Another HUGE benefit for us is that the majority of our children come from fairly stable homes.  After sharing that, a board members familiar with the public school gently chided me for being “too humble”  --  “Those are GREAT scores,” she said.  We would be happy to share them with anyone who would like to see them.  The teachers all have them – and they are available in the office as well.  Three cheers to students, teachers, and supportive and caring parents whose cumulative efforts through the years are bearing good fruit indeed.  St. Henry students do SOAR!

You will find some information from the Health Department in today’s envelope concerning a possible clinic to be held here 2-4 p.m.,Thursday, January 28th. We MUST have the information back on Monday in order for children to receive the H1N1 vaccine.  No exceptions, we are told.

May you have a lovely weekend.  See you at Mass!
