“John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him and said,

‘Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.’”           John 1:29

The young, newly-ordained Fr. John Putzer graced us with his presence this past Tuesday and shared his vocation story with the students in grades 5-8.  His joy in being a priest was almost palpable!   Speaking of priests, I hope you receive the Catholic Herald.  A GIANT picture of our own Fr. Brian playing his saxophone is on the front cover of a special vocations insert, and inside there is a full page article on his journey from growing up in South Milwaukee to making the decision in his forties to enroll in a seminary to becoming our pastor here at St. Henry.  Wonderful story; wonderful priest!

Last week we shared the grade 4-8 classroom winners of the National Geography Bee.  Last Friday afternoon we held our school bee, and eighth grader Caleb Walter emerged as the champion with fellow eighth grader, Leah Uecker, in the runner-up spot.  Caleb will now take a written test in school; it’s mailed in to determine if he will qualify to move on further.  We wish him the best and congratulate, again, all our winners.

Next week we will be having an open house here for our 4K program.  If you have any neighbors or friends with children that will be four on or by this coming September 1, please encourage them to come either Tuesday or Wednesday to meet one of our lovely preschool teachers, see the really nice facility we have here, and ask any questions they may have.  The times for that are between 3:00 and 5:30; they should enter by way of the front doors on Cady Street.  Parents of future 4K’ers should call the Education Service Center at 262-1460 for pre-registration materials that will then be mailed to then.  The actual registration is at the ESC at 111 Dodge Street (across the street from the 7-Up plant on South First Street) Monday through Wednesday, January 31- February 2.  It speeds thing up a LOT to have those pre-registration materials along and filled out.  And, of course, we think the Number One 4K site choice should be St. Henry!  Be sure to mention if you already have children here in our school.  The school district really does try to honor requests, and, of course, those who register on one of those three days when it opens for the 2011-2012 year certainly have the better chance of getting their top pick.

The big A team basketball tournament starts this coming Monday night.  Many thanks to all who donated their time to help.  It should be a really fun time.  Even if you don’t have a child in the program, feel free to come and pull for our athletes.  Weather permitting, there will be games early evening on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, most of Saturday, and then Sunday afternoon.  Great offerings in the concession stand.  Go, HAWKS!
