Knights of Columbus
Decides to Have Own Club House
Watertown Gazette, 04 26 1923
At a largely attended meeting held last
Thursday night at St. Henry's hall Watertown Council 1478 Knights of Columbus
of this city decided by a vote of 70 to 29 to own its own club house.
The attendance at the meeting was the largest
held since the organization of the council here and the matter was thoroughly
discussed before a vote was taken, the meeting lasting till after 12 o'clock.
The Watertown Knights of Columbus Building
Association has been incorporated under the laws of Wisconsin, the temporary
officers of the association are: J. W.
Moore, president; Frank Odgers, secretary; and Rev. Father Schwinn, treasurer,
who with Thos. Condon and Edw. Sweeney are the incorporators.
At the meeting Thursday night it was decided
to buy property and either improve the building that may be on the property, or
build. The amount extended for the
proposed club house will be decided as soon as the association is permanently
organized.
The council has a membership of about 250 and
it is expected to increase this membership to nearly double that amount after
the club house is completed.
It is the purpose to start with modest
quarters that can be added to as the council's business warrants, without in
any way detracting from the looks of the building. The home can be planned and erected in a
sectional manner and it is expected that when the Knights own an attractive
home that the upkeep of it can be financed by given entertainments at stated
intervals and without any increase in the regular dues of members.
