Marion Elizabeth Kehr Braun
1918 - 2016
LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Marion Elizabeth Braun was born in 1918 in Watertown, Wis., to Frank and Clara (Cruetz) Kehr. She passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Good Samaritan Society in Las Cruces.
Marion graduated from Watertown High School in 1936 and married the love of her life, Nickolas H. Braun, in October of 1937 in Watertown. They lived in Watertown and Milwaukee, Wis., during World War II and moved to Racine County in Wisconsin after the war. The marriage was blessed again in 1976. Marion was an active member of the Racine County Extension Homemakers for 17 years.
Following retirement, Nick and Marion moved to Las Cruces. Marion enjoyed their life in the West. Throughout her life, she traveled extensively throughout the United States and took cruises to Alaska and the Panama Canal in her later years. Marion remained in her Las Cruces home until she no longer was able to care for her yard. She then moved into Golden Mesa Retirement Home.
Marion was a fun-loving and kind aunt to many nieces and nephews and a devoted wife to Nick. She had extraordinary handicraft skills. Every Christmas she made unique, creative gifts by hand for all of her extended family. Marion had an independent spirit that served as a role model for anyone who knew her. She will be dearly missed.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nickolas in 1993; brothers, Lewis (Marian), Howard, Francis and Robert (Phyllis); as well as one sister, Dorothy (Henry) Sterwald.
She is survived by nieces Carole Kernosky of Michigan, Susan Farnsworth of Georgia, Dianne Trammel of Illinois, Jean (Tony) Kohn of Watertown, Nancy (Kenneth) Gullickson of Illinois and Connie (Richard) Dewitt of Watertown; special friend, Helene Fernandez; as well as other relatives and many friends and neighbors in Las Cruces and at Golden Mesa Retirement Home.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday in Las Cruces. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 14, at noon at Oak Hill Cemetery in Watertown with Father Scott Jablonski officiating. Any memorial gifts may be given to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Las Cruces or to St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown.
Jesus said: "I am the light of the world. He that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."
