Randy Roeseler

Randy Roeseler, well-known businessman and local historian, passed away from this world to the glories of eternity on January 24,2019, from a heart attack.  He was 59 years of age.

Randy was born on November 21, 1959 in Waupun, Wisconsin, son of Delmar and Betty (Klug) Roeseler.  He moved back to Watertown as an infant in February of 1960 and was always pleased to call Watertown “home”, as did his many ancestors.

As a child he attended St John’s Lutheran School and was a 1978 graduate of Watertown High School.  While in his senior year of high school he began working at First State Savings and Loan which merged several times to become Associated Bank.  That work as a teller began a lifelong career centered on customer service and community promotion.

Through the years Randy took courses through the UW extended degree program and banking resources.  Like many people in the financial industry he felt that regulatory stress hindered people of all kind.  He felt strongly that home ownership was one of the greatest opportunities in America.

Between two stretches of banking work Randy spent ten years as executive Director of the Watertown Area Chamber of Commerce. It was a tremendous experience for him and one he often regretted leaving.

In his spare time Randy spent countless hours working behind the scenes for the Watertown Historical Society, serving as a tour guide, volunteer and member of the board of directors of the society.  He was instrumental in many upgrades for the museum and general operations of the society and enjoyed greeting visitors to the community from all over the world.

Randy also enjoyed volunteering for Bread and Roses community dinner, various educational programs and through Watertown Rotary Club.

No matter what changed in life he always felt Watertown was a wonderful place to come home to, a feeling instilled in him by his Watertown grandmother Selma Klug.  He found much pleasure in knowing that he and his sister were descended from 9 pioneer Wisconsin families in Dodge, Jefferson and Fond Du Lac counties.  He was very content to be at home, enjoying his house in all seasons.  He was a great cook and baker, willingly sharing the bounty of his table, especially dark chocolates.

Randy’s greatest resource in life was his faith in Christ which he expressed most easily through music.  He was a 40+ year choir member and sang in various quartets, duets and as a soloist for funerals, weddings and other Christian services in the area and at his church.  He also served on other church committees including the decorating committee, organ restoration committee and helped to coordinate occasional bible classes.  He found much pleasure in serving on the long-term committee which oversaw the restoration of the beautiful church sanctuary at St. Mark’s.  Randy enjoyed personal and group prayer.

He is survived by his parents, his sister Shari (Elizabeth) of Sacramento, CA, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 9am to 11am on Tuesday, January 29th with services immediately following at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Watertown.  Hafemeister Funeral and Cremation Service is serving the family.  A private burial will take place on a later date.  Memorials are suggested to the music program at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and St. John’s Lutheran Church, The Watertown Historical Society, The Watertown Food Pantry, Bread and Roses Community Dinner or Friends of Watertown Public Library.
