Ninabuck Building
415 East Main Street
1969
09 23 BUILDING HAS NEW LOOK
The building located at 415 East Main Street, owned by Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Ninabuck, has completely changed in appearance, accomplished by ornamental trimming and decoration. The design, color scheme and complete planning for the project were done by the Ninabucks.
The building, of brick construction, has been covered with grey vinyl siding.
Before and after pictures appear with this article.
The following information on the project was prepared for the Times by the Ninabucks:
"At the front, an old-style sheet metal cornice or canopy trim at the top was removed and replaced with vinyl facade. This also continues around on the Fifth Street side at the top of the building. Hail stones will not harm or dent vinyl and this possible problem had to be considered in the plan of installing this type of trim. The unusual recessed treatment of the three second-floor windows at the front was automatic. [?]
“It was desired that the front wall be straight so it was furred out to eliminate extending brick pilasters that are many times existent on buildings of this vintage.
"Each window on the front, side, and rear is accented with a pair of contrasting colored shutters. Four lighting fixtures, in keeping with the over-all design, are installed on the front. These are photo-cell controlled, turning on at dusk and off at dawn.
Drapes Changed.
"Dr. Anderson [Dr. M. J. Anderson], who has his chiropractic offices [Anderson’s Chiropractic office, 415 E. Main] in the first floor front area of the building, aided the over-all effect by changing drapes to a style and color to be fitting with the new decor.
"The side of the building toward the rear takes on an entirely different appearance by the continuance of the facade on the two levels of the rear section.
The part of the building at the very rear is of lean-to construction and this effect is eliminated now by a false wall that has a horizontal roof line. Too, the fire wall at the top of the main building was pitched to the rear, it following the roof line. A portion of the facade up there is also a false wall, giving a straight roof line.
"The vinyl siding was continued on the back of the building and also under the car port, including the ceiling of that area. Our offices are in the first-floor rear section of building with entrance under the car port.
Improvements Made
"Linda and Lillian [Mrs. Alinda Fasbender & Mrs. Lillian Zwieg] of the L & L Restaurant next door [417 E. Main] to our property also did some sprucing up. The exterior trim, windows, etc., of their building have been painted and at the rear a storage house was added. Too, a decorative wood fence enclosing the storage area was erected. The trim on the building and the fence are of same color, giving a very pleasant effect. They also are in the process of completely redecorating the interior of the restaurant.
"What is quite remarkable, and a most pleasing aspect of the project, is that only two colors were used throughout. The major portion is a light grey and the accent by the shutters. drapes, etc. are of a gun metal grey. The color idea, as well as the over-all design, makes this building appearance truly outstanding."
