Next week, Sept 20, 21, 22, 23, the Watertown Inter County Fair will be held on the fairgrounds in this city.  The exhibits promise to be very large, the races first-class, and the other attractions all excellent and up to date.  The fair will also be open evenings.

Tuesday will be children’s day, when all school children will be admitted free.  On this day the Richwood Juvenile Band will furnish the music.  The speed attractions will be the colt race, 3 years old and under, pace or trot, for a purse of $200.  From present indications this race will fill and will afford an opportunity to display speed.

Wednesday will be Watertown day, when it is expected that all business houses will close in the afternoon to allow the help to swell the attendance.  There will be two bands of music for that day, the Watertown Military Band and the Reeseville Band.  An excursion train at 10 p.m. will take the visitors between here and Portage home.  The races will include a 2:10 pace for $500, a 2:29 pace for $500, and a 2:17 trot for $400.

Thursday will be a big day. The excursionists from Beaver Dam and other Dodge County towns will be headed by the Ladies' band of Randolph and in addition there will be two Waterloo bands.  An excursion train at 10 p. m. will carry home the visitors between here and Madison.  The races for that day will include a 2:15 pace for $600, a 2:27 trot for $400 and a 2:19 pace for $500.

On Friday the Imperial Band will furnish the inspiration.  The racing will include a 2:24 pace for $400 and a free for all pace or trot for $500.

The midway will be lined with good attractions and the free attractions both day and night are the best that money could secure.  Some wonderful athletic feats are included in this particular line which must be seen to be appreciated.  The street cars will carry the crowds to the main gate.

The Watertown Fair a Great Success

The Exhibits the Largest and Best Since Fair Was Organized

The Attendance Very Large

Watertown Gazette, 09 23 1910

Good weather has prevailed since the opening of the Inter-County Fair in this city on Tuesday, and the indications are that it will continue till the close of the fair Friday evening.  The fair can be truthfully said to be the very best ever held in this city and the equal of any in Wisconsin.  The exhibits are very large and well worth inspection by every visitor to the fair.  The poultry, horse, cattle, swine and sheep departments are full to overflowing, the agricultural products as well as horticultural, are large and excellent, the machinery and vehicle display is very fine, and the merchandise and fine art buildings are full to overflowing.  The educational department is the best ever displayed here.  Beside the grand display exhibited by the Watertown public schools, Jefferson and Ft. Atkinson public schools have most excellent displays.  The horse racing is good and many good races are on the program for Thursday and Friday afternoons.  The attendance is very large and on Thursday there were fully 15,000 people on the grounds.

Watertown Fair

Watertown Gazette, 09 30 1910

We had the pleasure of attending the Watertown Fair and must bear testimony to our surprise at the fullness and excellence displayed in all departments.  A most excellent display of cattle, hogs, and sheep were to be seen.  One large herd of Guernseys by McFarland Bros, and two fine herds of Holsteins by Messrs. Mullen and Lehman were on exhibition.

The grandstand entertainment in the races and the show attractions across the track were good in every respect.  The Northwestern Mfg. Co. of this city [Fort Atkinson] were on deck with a nice display of their carriages, which attracted much attention.  The thorough good work done by this company in all that they manufacture is the basis of the large confidence they enjoy.

The attendance on Tuesday was estimated at 10,000.  We wish to acknowledge the pleasant courtesies of President Wertheimer and the most kindly attention of Mr. Oscar Wertheimer and his estimable wife, who did all in their power to make our short stay pleasant.

We vote the Watertown Fair a success. —[Ft. Atkinson Union]

C. E. Hunter, manager of the New Commercial Hotel, who gave such fine satisfaction as starter for the Watertown fair races last week, will leave the latter part of next month for Phoenix, Arizona, and El Paso, Texas, to officiate as starter for two big races.  It is a foregone conclusion that he will give the best of satisfaction.
