East Main Street Bridge

same as Smith or Memorial and later Hwy 19 bridge

 

Was built by Heber Smith, a mason and master builder.

Reading of the resolution passed July 6th, 1863, directing the Committee on Streets and Bridges to advertise for and receive proposals for building a bridge at the east end of Main Street.

 

1854

BUILT HOUSE AT 910 SOUTH EIGHTH (per Bill Jannke)

Home was built by Heber Smith, a mason and master builder.

 

 

 

 

1895

Watertown Republican, 06 19 1895

Last evening the common council authorized the board of public works to advertise for bids for paving what is commonly called Smith’s bridge (the one leading to Oak Hill cemetery) with cedar blocks.  It is estimated the cost will be about $600.  This will be a much needed improvement.
