01 23 Approximately 240 Elks from Watertown Lodge
No. 666 and other lodges in the southern Wisconsin district turned out last
night for the testimonial dinner honoring Dr. J. R. Casanova, this city,
district deputy grand exalted ruler of the southern district. The district is made up of 12 lodges, including
No. 666 here. It was one of the largest
Elks gatherings held in Watertown in a number of years. The upper ballroom, where the dinner was
served, was filled to near capacity.

02 28 Dr. J. R.
Casanova, a past exalted ruler of Watertown Lodge No. 666, B.P.O.E., and a past
district deputy grand exalted ruler for southern Wisconsin last night was
elected to honorary life membership to the Elks at a meeting of the lodge. Dr. Casanova was nominated for the honor by
the group of past exalted rulers of the lodge.
The vote last night was unanimous to extend the life honorary membership
to Dr. Casanova who is still active in the affairs of the lodge. WDT

Casanova, Watertown dentist and former district deputy exalted ruler of the
Elks, today was elected president of the Wisconsin Elks Association at Green
Bay for the term beginning in May of 1961.
Dr. Casanova was placed in nomination at the state convention this
morning. His election followed. Dr. Mel Junioin,
Green Bay, was installed today as state president of the association for the
term ending next May. WDT

and Cub Scout leaders in Watertown and Dr. J. R. Casanova were guests at the
Monday evening meeting of the Kiwanis Club at Welcome
Inn. Vice president Dennis Johnson said
Kiwanis Clubs in the United States and Canada have long been partners in
scouting. The organization sponsors more
than 2,000 units, making the Kiwanis the largest scout sponsor by percentage in
the state. At the meeting, the local
leaders were recognized for their involvement with youth. Very active in
community affairs, Dr. Casanova has been chairman of two public drives to raise
money for the hospital and is a member of the Elks Lodge, Rotary Club,
Jefferson County Dental Society, Catholic Knights Insurance Society and
scouting organizations. In 1968, he was
named "Citizen of the Year" by the Watertown Chamber of

07 17 Dr. J. R. Casanova, a long-time Watertown
dentist, was elected Monday as Grand Esteemed Lecturing Knight for the Elks
during the organization's Grand Lodge Convention in Chicago. Casanova was chosen for the honor for his
many years of service and leadership among the Elks, the state and the Watertown
community. Casanova has been a member of
Watertown Lodge 666 since his initiation in 1940 and has served for 42 years at
the lodge, district, state and Grand Lodge levels. WDT

03 11 The Watertown Elks Lodge formally dedicated its
redecorated dining room in honor of the late Dr. J.R. Casanova in a special
program Saturday evening at the lodge.
The dining room is now known as The Casanova Room in honor of Casanova
and the many accomplishments he had in the Elks. In addition, The Wisconsin Elks Association
announced Saturday evening that the trophy for Ritualistic Excellence,
presented to the top lodge in rituals each year, will be renamed the "Dr.
Casanova Champion Trophy." Dr.
Casanova's wife, Leanor, and members of his family
were present for the dinner and program.
Dr. Casanova died in January of this year after having served the Elks
in a wide variety of local, state and national positions. WDT
